Signs you might be an unnecessary human being……

-you’re on your cell phone when paying cashier
-texting while driving
-putting bacon on everything
-complaining all the time
-You misuse the word ‘need’ (driving/TV/alcohol/coffee/etc)
-you use facebook as a way to constantly talk about your kids (under 35) or check up on your kids (over 35)
-you are a member of the tea party and you don’t drink tea
-thinking facebook comments are real communication

wants vs needs

We have a lot of stuff, a lot of choices, at lot of options. And that’s awesome. But because we have so much, we sometimes get overwhelmed and forget the difference between wants and needs.

Needs
1.Drinkable water
2.Basic literacy in ones native language (being able to read at a 6th grade level)
3.Ability to communicate with other people (not just by shouting)
4.Access to medical care
5.Basic human rights
6.Food that satisfy’s caloric and nutritional needs

Wants
1.Vitamin water
2.Electronic Spanish English dictionary
3.Phone you can use to update facebook
4.Affordable medical care
5.People using their indoor voices indoors
6.Variety of ethnic restaurants

Difficult breakups

Sometime breakups are hard. Sometimes feelings are hurt. And divorce can be especially costly and difficult. And it is all very sad.

But lucky for us honor killings are illegal throughout the first world (even in Turkey because they want to join the EU). And because our first world passports almost always guarantee as a visa, if the relationship really fails we can just flee the country.
So instead of mopping, complaining, and falling apart we need to carry on. Even when are hearts are breaking we have to suck it up. We have to act like nothing is wrong and hide them on facebook until we feel better.

Cell phone reception

You are not that important. What you have to say is not that interesting. It is ok that sometimes people cannot reach you.

No one needs to be reachable 24/7. Humankind made it four thousand years without a cellphone and you can too. If you are so important that you really need to be available AT ALL TIMES, you probably wouldn’t read my blog.

I understand that some people need to reachable. For example some doctors (not PhD’s or dermatologists) need to be available (most of the people). If you are responsible for a young child or an elderly person, you want signal. And if you are high on the transplant you list, it’s a good idea to be available.

But for the rest of us….If we miss a call, it’s ok. It can wait. Life continues. You can call them back.

Facebook Part !

Growing up in a city, people who always moving. The story was that their parents were taking them to the suburbs because inner city schools weren’t safe, but because no every heard from them again, we never really knew what happened to them. Thanks to the magic of facebook I know these people are alive and well, and attended suburban high schools.

My mom really loves facebook. She has a smart phone and is logged onto facebook all the time. She gets annoyed when people call; because the phone is just for facebook and the occasional music listen. One of her favorite facebook activities is to closely read my cousins profile, then tattle to my aunt (who doesn’t like to go on facebook)

Stuff that facebook is good for
1) Founding out those kids who ‘moved away’ growing up are alive and well.
2) Found out who is gay. Is competition to see where more people turned out to be gay: 4th grade karaoke party or synagogue youth group
3) Keeping up with my pals in Costa Rica (one of the newest first world counties)
4) Getting invited and hearing about cool events
5) Keeping up with people you wouldn’t other keep in touch with
Stuff that facebook is bad for
1) Keeping up with people you wouldn’t otherwise keep up with
2) Knowing all the life details about people you barely know
3) Spending all your time on facebook
4) Founding out some you used to be involve with gay
5) Finding out about stuff you weren’t invited too.

Activities to do instead of facebook
1) Go outside
2) Watch TV
3) Create a blog
4)

There are only three because facebook is completely awesome use of your time.

Air conditioning

I always think both the heat and air condition are up too high. My body can adjust to most temperature

(much like a reptile) so I don’t need artificial heating up and cooling down. But even you normal blooded 1st worlders waste are wasting too much energy. Your body is supposed to cool you down by sweating, not a machine that makes you so cold you can walk around your office in a suit and tie. And if you’re too hot you probably don’t belong there.

Edit
I once got yelled at for walking around a Walgreens for hours because I didn’t have air conditioning.

there is nothing vegetarian to eat

Vegetarianism has been historically associated with types of Buddhism, and the Indian subcontinent. But in the first world it’s often upheld by whiney kids who know better than you.

It’s because we do. We in the first world are incredibly wastefully. And one of the biggest wastes is producing meat. So in a way vegetarians are just trying to even out the amount of resources a human should take. And we are not being selfish or needing special accommodations. It’s only in first world countries that I ask for vegetarian food. If I were in Africa I would never ask for vegetarian food, I would eat whatever I was given because they use way resources (probably not enough).
We will outlive you because our cholesterol is lower (as long as we protein up). And I will make sure that I outlive so that I can quit being a vegetarian and eat your remains.

I can't find parking!

This isn't a compliant I understand because I've never owned a car. But it's probably the most common first world problem

We are cars so important in our society? Why are so many places accessible only by car? And why is there no place to put your car?

I don’t understand why you are complaining because….

1) You are lucky to have a car (I don't have a car)
2) You are probably very lucky to be going wherever you are going (even to work
3) You are lucky to have such a fast means of transportation
4) You’re community has an obligation to provide you with libraries, schools, a place to buy food, access to drinkable water. They do not have an obligation to provide you with parking
5) If you voluntarily live somewhere that revolves around a car, I don't understand you anyways.

Edit
In defense of people who complain about parking
-When car culture started, maybe people didn’t know how short cited the idea was?
-One cannot always make life choices around public transit/bike paths
